STEELTOWN STORY | DOCUMENTARY

Client: Scunthorpe Steeltown Team

The Scunthorpe Steeltown Team campaign was founded by Chairman and former Scunthorpe Mayor Jim Pearson. Their objectives are as follows:

“To promote, commemorate and celebrate through visual and performing arts: the culture and heritage of the workers and families, past and present, connected with the Scunthorpe Steelwork Industry.”

“To honour the importance of the steel industry to the Scunthorpe area’s growth and development, through artistic expression such as: Sculptures, Street Art, Performing Arts and any other art forms which will enhance and positively develop the Scunthorpe area, and its people”.

We were commissioned to produce a documentary film for the Scunthorpe Steeltown Team to tell the story of the people behind the fantastic sculpture being placed in Scunthorpe town centre in Spring. They wanted the film to raise awareness of the sculpture and its intended purpose. We captured the stories of the individuals involved in a cinematic, documentary style with plenty of gritty textures reflecting the strong industrial heritage in Scunthorpe.

After travelling to Durham to film Ray Lonsdale in his workshop, we started filming closer to home and spoke to key members of the team who lived local to Scunthorpe. Interviews with everyone we visited naturally brought the narrative together in post-production and once completed, the film was exhibited in museums and art galleries across Lincolnshire and utilised on social media.
